I have so much stress/anxiety in my life right now it feels like the world is sitting on my shoulders. I am having a hard time focusing and regrouping.
What do you do when stress/anxiety begins to take control of your life?
Bet you can’t tell that Nursing school is kicking my arse!!
Well, if you have any tips, I would love to hear them.

Jenny! I totally understand where you’re coming from….I get so stressed at work and combine that with school (although not a full load like you) the pressure can definitely mount. What I do is I take a deep breath, stop what I am doing and just sit and make a list. Make a list of what I need to do, focus, and take on the list. I hope that helps!
I have a margarita! Alcohol makes everything better. Hahaha, just kidding! Or wait, maybe it was, alcohol makes everyone LOOK better!!
I go get a pedicure. I know it might sound cheesy, but it gives me the opportunity to just sit and think, and relax for a bit. Sometimes that’s all I need to regroup. Once I’m done, and I feel like I’ve been “pampered” a bit, I’m totally focused and ready to take on whatever I need to do. I also create a list and then just start going about my tasks one by one.
Sending you big hugs!!
Not everything works the same for each of us, but I do know what you are talking about lately I’ve been walking a little each nite and taking deep breaths and a little reading. I sometimes makes lists to tackle. Sometimes I just sit and pray for the most benevolent outcome. I hope it gets better soon.
1. Walk/Run
2. Focuses breathing
3. I already have lists – that’s probably a big stress right there – so, I prioritize my lists. Boil it down to just the essentials so I can find my focus.
4. Act on the new top priorities.
Sometimes I have to “talk myself down” from getting all worked up over stuff. Like this surgery thing. Ended up realizing it really had nothing to do with the surgery or the skin cancer (played the “what’s the worst/best thing that can happen if” game). It was about something more personal that I had to deal with. When I realized that, the stress was gone. I also play the “what will I do if this or that happens?” game. A lot of times we stress ourselves out over the unknown. Once we think it through and know how we’ll handle it either way, some of the stress goes away.
Believe in yourself! Tell the negative inner critic to go take a hike. You ARE good at this and you ARE going to be an excellent nurse. HUGS, my friend!
I went through a rut a couple of weeks ago and I was burnt out from work. I’m always afraid to take time off because i end up paying for it when i get back. I’m just always soo busy and I still am. But I finally decided that i need to step away to regroup and just destress. So I took friday through Monday off. This way i just took 2 days off from work but it still felt like 4 days….and stayed home. I didnt go anywhere or do anything i just stayed home. I didnt do any chores or run errands i just sat on my couch and watched tv. I went back to work…..happy and ready to do anything. I still feel great right now and highly recommend it to anyone.
