Target RANT!

Everyday Life | Wednesday 13 May 2009 2:59 pm

I spent two days creating my grocery list and surfing my favorite coupon blogs for coupon ideas for foods/misc that we eat/use.

First stop: Target. List in hand with coupons. Quick stop at the customer service desk to confirm the number of coupons a person can use at one time. The answer–no restriction, as long as the coupons are not expired. Headed directly to the aisle’s necessary {okay, so I did peruse the scrapbook aisle}. Found everything on my list accept for two items.

At the check out the cashier was fine until I passed her the coupons. Yeah, I got that ‘look’. She examined every coupon, and honestly I am shocked that she did not whip out a magnifying glass out of her pocket. Sorry, I am feeling pretty sarcastic after this experience.

Three particular items she refused to put the coupons thru because the coupons were for $1.00 off and the item was on sale for 99 cents. Rummaged thru the bags, found all of the items and gave them back. In the meantime the woman behind me was getting pissed. I just smiled at her. Yeah, a sarcastic, eff you smile!

Anyways, I am all done with this cashier and my patience is wearing thin. She tells me the final cost, and in my head I am trying to figure out how that figure is possible {you know me and math…I’m a bit slow there}. I decide to just hand her over the money, because 1. the cashier is going to choke me because she’s pissy about my coupons or 2. the he-woman behind me in line is going to choke me because she’s pissy about my coupons. With my sarcastic smile I wished the cashier a wonderful day {secretly hoping another woman with more coupons than me enters her line before her shift is over}.

Walking to the door I look at my receipt and notice that I was charged almost $8.00 for 8 items that I gave back to her that she refused to accept the $1.00 coupons on because they were on sale for 99cents. To the customer service desk…ugh!

Well. Are you ready for this?! My total was over $72.00 and including the above $8.00, my out of pocket expense was $15.07. Because my out of pocket expense was less than my total, even though I paid with a $20.00 bill, I could not receive cash back. I had to receive a gift card for $8.32. What?! I told the customer service gentleman that I was confused, and he started using these words like surplus, and too many coupons, so I decided to just take the gift card graciously and I figured I would scratch my head when I got outside into the truck.

So, anyways…this is all of my free food products that I was able to purchase today from Target.

Second stop: Pet Co. Bought my puppy a dog tag with his name and telephone number on it.

Third stop: The Mall. Not for me, for my boys.

Fourth stop: Super Walmart and major grocery shopping with $25.00 worth of coupons used. And oh yeah, my cashier never gave me that ‘oh shit, she has coupons look!!’. She was awesome, inspected the expiration dates as she should and scanned them thru without difficulty.

Now, I am home, and seriously, think I need to go to bed!! This is my story ladies and if you have any couponing suggestions feel free to offer them to me.

Will I Target coupon again? Well, I think next time I will smile very nicely and ask the cashier if they like coupons before I put my purchase on the conveyer belt. Maybe I should suggest a ‘coupon only’ aisle. But, I will tell you–Walmart was a much better experience!!

You rocked the coupons today, I am in AWE! At Stop&Shop they just take the coupons and scan them without looking twice, and if it doesn’t go through they’ll check. And at least you know you’ll use the Target gift card, though you deserved the $$$ back.

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve been having issues lately, especially with the printed coupons. They act like you are a criminal! And I agree with the Coupon line! lol!

I hear you girlie! I just started couponing again and I hate the “oh what a pain” look the cashier gives you. Anyway tip: WLBZ 2 website has coupons on it to. I need to get a printer cartridge so I can go on and print them off but you should take a look!
