Tuesday Stuff

Everyday Life | Tuesday 30 June 2009 6:52 pm

Another day spent studying. Nikki and I were able to get thru GI, Neuro and Part I of Maternity. Of course, if you remember I had a hard time during our Maternity rotation, so needless to say this part of the studying was pretty brutal to me. Trying to keep it inside my brain, and pray it doesn’t disappear before I sit for the NCLEX.

Speaking of the NCLEX. My original date was July 15th, and this morning I rescheduled to July 11th. In an attempt to move it up a bit closer. I need this over, because I am so ready to start reading Twilight, especially since Jeryn won’t stop talking about it, and now Aymee is involved the conspiracy also!

[Reading a good book is like spending time with a dear friend.

Cannot believe tomorrow is July 1st!! Unfortunately we didn’t have too many enjoyable days in June.

Project 365 with Sharon and I begins tomorrow, and I have to tell you that I am excited, and ready!! We hope you’ll follow us, and if you are doing a Project 365 be sure to let us know so we can add your blog to our links.

Oliver and I went on a walk tonight. 5 miles…but of course that is how much I walked…he had to be carried a few times, and man, you wouldn’t think 11 pounds is much, but my arm is saying otherwise.

Oh, and Watermelon is in the house!!

JBP2009

I love Dannon, and especially love the new flavors. Two of these a day and life is good! Here’s to hoping Dannon decides to keep watermelon and cantaloupe all year long!!

Well, that’s my Tuesday in a nutshell, and it’s time to start thinking and {hoping} that sleep will find me. HOpe your day has been a great one. Until tomorrow.

{Simply Sunday}

Family | Sunday 28 June 2009 3:52 pm

simplysunday@everydaylife.com

{Simply Sunday} will be focused on simple living, healthy living, frugal ideas, helpful links etc.

To-Do and This’n That

I’ll be tackling my usual Sunday system in an attempt to keep me organized this week, and more importantly, hopefully I am able to get a few things accomplished.

I came across this great article at Men’s Health. Another reason to love avocado’s, and grapefruit! I have tried to get the taste of green tea, but can’t seem to. While I’m talking about drinks, The 20 Unhealthiest Drinks in America. Seriously, if you don’t do anything, take a minute to look at #1! The amount of calories in that one shake is what I consume in calories in two days of food!! 8 Foods You Should Eat Every Day, they list great substitute ideas also.

I love whole living, body + soul magazine, and look forward to finding it in my mailbox every month. On page 26 of the August edition there is A Nice Gesture:

I can’t end hunger, but I can donate cans to a food bank. I can’t fix needy schools, but I can give them my kids’ old books. I can’t end the war, but I can send a phone card so a soldier can be comforted by calling home. –Do One Nice Thing By Debbie Tenzer

I challenge you to do one of these gestures this week.

I love my camera. I try to take her every where with me. But, I have decided it is time to move up in megapixels once and for all, and am contemplating the  Canon XSi. {update: my d-rebel is going to a good home!!}

July 1st Sharon and I are going to tackle the Project 365 together. We’ll be sharing our daily picture and weekly layout design on our blog, we hope you’ll bookmark and visit us daily, and of course if you haven’t began a Project 365 we hope that we’ll inspire you to begin yours also.

Busy week ahead of me…here’s to a wonderful week for all of us!

Homemade Strawberry Tart, click here for recipe.

JBP2009

Did you know that Strawberries rival citrus fruits for vitamin C content, and are packed with antioxidants. Strawberries have more vitamin C than an orange.

1 cup of sliced, raw strawberries = 53 calories.
Fat 0.5g
Fiber 3.3 g = 13% of DRI
Vitamin C 97.6 mg = 130% of DRI
Folate 40 mcg = 10% of DRI
Potassium 254 mg = 5% of DRI

Or that the Strawberry is technically not a fruit. What we think of as the berry is actually the strawberry’s fleshy receptacle. The 200 or so tiny golden seeds that dot the outside of each strawberry are the actual fruits, called achenes. The achenes only account for 1 percent of a strawberry’s weight, but are responsible for 14 percent of its antioxidant power.

I just came across this information and thought it was pretty interesting, and figured since my recipe was a Strawberry Tart, that I would throw out this information. {Strawberry information found in the August 2009 body + soul magazine}

Saturday Finds and Such

Everyday Life,Simple Living | Saturday 27 June 2009 3:50 pm

Happy Saturday friends! Still cannot believe how quickly Saturday got here, but here it is…and we all know that means Saturday Yardsaling!! $10.00 cash and Oliver in tow, and here’s a peek at a few of the goodies I found…{and no, I did not spend all of my money}.

JBP2009

7 Silver Pails to match the three I already have, .25 cents each!!  The three smaller tins were .25 cents for all three of them. I am going to spray paint them white, and use them for my windowsill herb garden along with the silver pails. And finally a brand new Wilton cupcake stand for $3.00.

And of course, a few books! {Toni, the bottom 4 will be heading your way}.

JBP2009

Watched Gran Torino this afternoon. Great movie.

Remember a few posts back I shared a very chaotic looking scrapbooking area. Well, the moon and stars were all lined up straight and last night I finished my organizing. What a project that turned into. Must remind myself to leave things alone. You know, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it…Need to stop making extra work for myself!

JBP2009

On this shelf originally was pink cardboard like boxes filled with stamps. I went thru them, organized and packed up them up into one of my vintage suitcases, and decided to get more of my embellishments out into the open. This shelf will eventually be all different sized mason jars filled with goodies…

JBP2009

And of course, the all important iPod player, and a picture of my grammie…

JBP2009

I hope your Saturday has been a wonderful one. For here I am going to run along. Until tomorrow’s {Simply Sunday} post…

Life, and Thoughts on Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawcett

Everyday Life,Oliver | Friday 26 June 2009 6:19 pm

I found this complete set of Currier & Ives seasonal plates. Ohhhhh, how I love vintage!! Not sure exactly where I’ll be hanging these…

JBP2009

Quick run into PetCo, and I had to pick Oliver up a special treat…

JBP2009

He was so excited about his little treat I had a hard time getting a picture of him as I couldn’t get him to get into the back of the truck.

JBP2009

I am going to do a search for a good recipe so I can make them for Oliver.

My heart and thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of Michael Jackson. A true Pop Icon, that as a teenager I grew up with. Driving down the road this afternoon I was offended to hear that one of the DJ’s was not going to play a tribute to Michael Jackson during her program. Seriously folks, we all have ‘our opinions’, but unless we were there at that moment that the supposed crime/inappropriateness took place, we do not know the truth, and never will. I feel confident that he was acquitted by a jury of his own peers for a reason. Keith mentioned that he read …Michael Jackson never had a childhood, now he will never know old age. And we have missed out on his return scheduled for next month. As said, Michael Jackson was a part of my teen years. I loved his music then, and I still love it now.

And who didn’t/or couldn’t love Farrah Fawcett. Not many of us didn’t have that poster of her wearing the red bathing suit hanging in our bedroom…my thoughts and prayers to her family. So sad that Cancer has taken another life! But, how damn brave of this woman to video her fight against Cancer. You know when bad things happen to us we can choose to be a victim. Sometimes, I think its much easier for people to label themselves as victims. Farrah refused to be a victim, and fought to be a survivor. If her story reaches to prevent one person to stop being a victim, and to be a survivor, she will have made a huge difference.

Goodnight, and hold your loved ones close…
