{Simply Sunday} will be focused on simple living, healthy living, frugal ideas, helpful links etc.

To-Do and This’n That

I’ll be tackling my usual Sunday system in an attempt to keep me organized this week, and more importantly, hopefully I am able to get a few things accomplished.

I came across this great article at Men’s Health. Another reason to love avocado’s, and grapefruit! I have tried to get the taste of green tea, but can’t seem to. While I’m talking about drinks, The 20 Unhealthiest Drinks in America. Seriously, if you don’t do anything, take a minute to look at #1! The amount of calories in that one shake is what I consume in calories in two days of food!! 8 Foods You Should Eat Every Day, they list great substitute ideas also.

I love whole living, body + soul magazine, and look forward to finding it in my mailbox every month. On page 26 of the August edition there is A Nice Gesture:

I can’t end hunger, but I can donate cans to a food bank. I can’t fix needy schools, but I can give them my kids’ old books. I can’t end the war, but I can send a phone card so a soldier can be comforted by calling home. –Do One Nice Thing By Debbie Tenzer

I challenge you to do one of these gestures this week.

I love my camera. I try to take her every where with me. But, I have decided it is time to move up in megapixels once and for all, and am contemplating the  Canon XSi. {update: my d-rebel is going to a good home!!}

July 1st Sharon and I are going to tackle the Project 365 together. We’ll be sharing our daily picture and weekly layout design on our blog, we hope you’ll bookmark and visit us daily, and of course if you haven’t began a Project 365 we hope that we’ll inspire you to begin yours also.

Busy week ahead of me…here’s to a wonderful week for all of us!

Homemade Strawberry Tart, click here for recipe.

JBP2009

Did you know that Strawberries rival citrus fruits for vitamin C content, and are packed with antioxidants. Strawberries have more vitamin C than an orange.

1 cup of sliced, raw strawberries = 53 calories.
Fat 0.5g
Fiber 3.3 g = 13% of DRI
Vitamin C 97.6 mg = 130% of DRI
Folate 40 mcg = 10% of DRI
Potassium 254 mg = 5% of DRI

Or that the Strawberry is technically not a fruit. What we think of as the berry is actually the strawberry’s fleshy receptacle. The 200 or so tiny golden seeds that dot the outside of each strawberry are the actual fruits, called achenes. The achenes only account for 1 percent of a strawberry’s weight, but are responsible for 14 percent of its antioxidant power.

I just came across this information and thought it was pretty interesting, and figured since my recipe was a Strawberry Tart, that I would throw out this information. {Strawberry information found in the August 2009 body + soul magazine}
