Wednesday, WEdnesday

Everyday Life | Wednesday 24 March 2010 8:44 pm

Hello, and Happy Hump-day! We’re that much closer to the weekend. This is my weekend to work so we won’t be doing anything of any real interest.

Yesterday was crazy. I punched out of work at 9am then found myself punching back into work at 5pm, working until 8am this morning. Thankfully it was a smooth 15 hours and I only had a few minutes of minor anxiety.

On the way home from work this morning I stopped and picked up this great quote frame that I wanted to share with you.

Mark your calendar for April 19th through the 25th for Ali’s Week in the Life. I’m going to attempt to join in. I have already decided how I am going to document this week. Just need to create a quick postie-reminder.

Waiting for my maid to show up! And hope that tornado doesn’t touch down in middle of my house again/anytime soon!j

Well, that’s all for me. I keep knodding off, so it’s time to conclude this day and find myself sleeping.

Health Care Reform Bill RANT, be forewarned!

Everyday Life | Tuesday 23 March 2010 12:16 pm

Hello Tuesday, but bleh to this rain! Bodies aching, and I’m on day three of a perpetual headache and mouth/teeth pain…I’m thinking it’s sinus related, and I’m sure if I’d given in and taken Tylenol before now that I would be much happier, and without a headache. I’ll learn, someday…maybe!

Saw this quote this morning on my facebook wall and wanted to share with you [thank you SK!!]

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” – Thomas Jefferson

So, are you thinking about the Health Care Reform Bill, and what exactly this means for you and your family? I am confused about the whole thing personally. But my biggest confusion is why were the Democrats and Republicans split on this bill…obviously there is a reason, and I have a feeling the ‘working class’ will soon enough find out the reason. Found this article: How the Health Care Overhaul Could Affect You in my email this morning, and this is what I see pretty clearly:

  • There is a reason why so many families in the United States are not covered under health insurance. They are the “working poor” who have to choose between paying for a roof over their families heads, and putting food on their tables, and because they are working make too much money to qualify for assistance with health care…when these are the people/familes that truly deserve it!!
  • Those who choose to make the conscious decision not to work [and I am not talking about those who have faced unemployment due to this horrible economy] will continue to be permitted to receive assistance.
  • Am I against public aide/assistance? NO!
  • Do I believe that public aide/assistance should exist? YES!
  • Should any child, teenager, young adult, pregnant woman, adult person with medical situations that truly prevent them from working, our veterans regardless of age, or the elderly person be without medical insurance? NO!
  • What I see, is a continuance of those who are working and trying to support their families to the best of their abilities, ie: the ‘working class’ will be unable to get a step ahead financially, and will continue to be entrapped in choosing between paying the rent, putting food on the table, and now as an added bonus will be financially penalyzed, and the added risk of being imprisoned? Okay, maybe the democrats took that out of this newly reformed bill.
  • And if it’s difficult for the ‘working class’, how the heck  is this going to affect our veterans, or our elderly?

Well, that’s my two cents worth. I ‘hope’ I am wrong, and I ‘hope’ I am reading this reform wrong…but, well, like everything related to the good ‘ole politics of the United States, we’ll have to take a deep breath and wait and see what it has in store for us.

Before he signed his name, the president said that the bill’s passage demonstrates that the nation can still accomplish big things rather than succumbing to doubt, mistrust, and fear. “We are not a nation that scales back its aspirations,” said President Obama. “We’re a nation that does what is hard, what is necessary, what is right. Here in this country, we shape our own destiny.

Well, President Obama, I ask you, why have we not furthered our aspirations to stop our children from going to bed hungry in the United States? Why have we not furthered our aspirations to give our youth an appropriate education instead of the cutting of teachers, art programs, music programs, school closings, etc. Why have we not furthered our aspirations to prevent our men and women in uniform from being sent over seas to fight a war that continues to rob so many of them their lives? Why have we not furthered our aspirations to assist the men and women in New Orleans to rebuild their lives? Okay, okay, this may be a low blow, as this natural disaster began long before Obama took office, but not too many weeks ago I watched a program on television showing housing that is still not completed, and men and women still living in FEMA trailers…

Rant over. I promise. Well, atleast until 2014 when the realities of this bill come to light…or, make me eat crow!

As always, if I am being narrow minded and you are able to point me in a direction to enlighten me, feel free to comment away and point me in the right direction, or just give me a good swift kick to the shins if necessary!!

Everyday Life,Recipes,Simple Living | Sunday 21 March 2010 7:55 pm

Happy Sunday friends! Coffee’s on, and the first load of laundry is in the wash machine. Washing my scrubs, bedding and in general getting prepared for another busy week ahead.

One of my girlfriends sent me this cute ..You know you’re a Nurse, and thought I would share…

Top Ten Reasons you Know You’re a Nurse

  • 1. You wash your hands before you use the bathroom. Oh, the benefits of that microbiology class.
  • 2. You know the smell of different diarrhea to identify it. C-diff. Enough said.
  • 3. You check the caller ID on your day off to see if anyone fromwork is trying to call and ask you to work. <3 caller ID!
  • 4. Discussing bodily fluids over a gourmet meal seems perfectly normal to you. Is this abnormal?
  • 5. Every time someone asks you for a pen you can find at least 4 of them on you. But don’t think you can keep it!
  • 6. Your bladder can expand to the size of a Winnebago’s water tank. Amen.
  • 7. You find yourself checking out other customer’s veins in grocery waiting lines. A 16 is good!
  • 8. Your finger has gone places you never thought possible. Yeah, that.
  • 9. You think caffeine should be available in IV form. Oh, to dream.
  • 10. You’ve used the word, ‘rationale’, ‘as evidenced by’, or quoted a nursing diagnosis in everyday life.  Love my ‘r/t’ personally.

Woman’s Day, March issue shares a few of the Pioneer Womans recipes from her new cookbook. I flipped thru it at Borders a few weeks back, but have no plans of purchasing it. Maybe it’s because I’m not a ‘cook’…who knows. But, I am going to use her recipe for ‘comfort meatballs’ next time I do cook… Here’s the recipe: Comfort Meatballs.

I picked up another dress form at an antique store. Isn’t she beautiful!

HOpe your Sunday has been a beautiful one. Here’s to a wonderful week ahead of us…Until later.

Everyday Life,Oliver,To-Do List | Thursday 18 March 2010 12:05 pm

I began a post yesterday to wish everyone a Happy St Patrick’s Day, and unfortunately I kind of fell asleep and never got back to my blog. So, my wishes are a day late, but I hope that each of you had a great day!

For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way -
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day. -Author Unknown

[My Lucky Leprachaun, Oliver]

I’ve been working on some paperwork this morning, clipping coupons, looking at some recipes, and pulling my need to-do and want to-do lists together, and watching movies on netflix. Work tonight. On two. Off two. Busy weekend planned, and hoping to get a lot accomplished during those two days.

Feeling pretty tired, so I’m going to run along and sneak in a quick nap. Take care friends…until next time.

HeLLO!

Everyday Life,Scrapbooking & Rubberstamping | Monday 15 March 2010 6:25 pm

Hello friends, and yes, I am still among the living. Work is kicking my butt, and there just doesn’t seem to be enough time in my day…yeah, I think I’ve complained about this situation for quite some time now. See…somethings just don’t change!

Seriously. Work is going great. The 80 minute drive one way sucks, [mostly because there is so much I could be getting accomplished on my never ending to-do list ;P ], but I am not complaining. Alright. I did complain one day but that was because we were having a snow storm and my new car wasn’t liking the snow very much. And it wasn’t really a ‘complaint’, it was one of those “I am not going to live thru this and if something happens to me don’t forget about my life insurance policy that I may have forgotten to tell you about.”

The signs of Spring are beginning to arrive here on the East Coast, and like many, I am looking forward to another winter to come to an end.

I have begun my Spring cleaning, and the inside of my house looking like a tornado has touched down in the center of it, would just be added proof. I don’t have ‘time’ for this, but in an attempt to welcome Spring, and continue to organize, and downsize for the move, is a good thing.

Oliver had a morning of pampering on Friday with a groom and pedicure, and goodness he is just too dang cute! Wait until you see the picture I will be sharing with you on Wednesday. So, even if I absolutely bore you to death, be sure to stop in Wednesday morning.

Cleaning out my email inbox [it is not a pretty site friends!] and thought I’d Link/Idea SHare:

  • I received an email from Christine offering her gorgeous aprons at cost. I am loving this pink and black one!!
  • I don’t want to be an enabler, but ohhhh, man! Loving Cricuts Straight from the Nest and I will definetly be adding this cartridge to my collection, soon.
  • Nic Howard has done it yet again. Be forewarned ladies, when you see what she has done you may find yourself drooling on your keyboard!! [..did you say it? i love you. i don't ever want to live without you. you changed my life. did you say it? make a plan. set a goal. work toward it..but every now and then, look around. drink it in. 'cause this is it. it may all be gone tomorrow..]
  • Need a smidget of mojo? These ‘Bad Girls’ got it going on!!
  • Just found this sweet site, Creative Cookbooking.
  • Ohhh!! Do I have time for my own- 42 squares?! Love, love, love! and I have an idea… 39 Squares

[can ya tell I desperately want to play in my ARt STudio?]…

Well friends, I need to shower, iron my scrubs and find my way to work. Talk to you tomorrow sometime, and hey, if you’ve missed me, it’s okay to let me know in a comment ;P
