For the LOve of clear skies!

Today I am grateful for clear skies, and no rain…

I don’t do it very often due to the cost, and the calories, but I love Dunkin Donuts french vanilla coffee, and an old fashioned donut. Of course they have much better donuts, but the old fashioned reminds me of my nannie.

A trip to the grocery store, and hardware store [where I spent a small fortune on paintbrushes]. Home to enjoy my coffee, and to read our weekly town paper, and saw myself… :)

Lugged furniture outside to begin priming. Here is a before picture of the bureau…

My sister gave me this bureau a few weeks ago. It is solid wood, and in great condition for it’s age.  It will live in the diningroom, and believe it or not…I plan on downsizing all of my scrapbook/rubberstamp supplies to fit into this bureau. It is going to be perfect!

After first coat of primer.

Fingers crossed that one coat of primer will do it. It is a lot of work, but the end results are so worth it!

…the bureau with one coat primer, and one coat Sherwin Williams antique white. I may need to add one more coat of paint before it receives a shabby sanding, and a coat of polyurethane, and new knobs. I’ll share a final completed picture as soon as I can…

Unfortunately I will have to do another coat of primer on the chairs, so that project will have to wait a few more days…

Well friends, I need to clean up after myself, figure out how I am going to get all of this paint off myself, and pack for a lovely weekend away with my husband. Here’s to a beautiful weekend! Until later…

DIY Progress

The table, and one chair officially have one coat of primer, and two coats of paint on them. Sealant tomorrow. Not sure of my thoughts right now, for some reason it is not looking the way I wanted it to, and the white is a little whiter than I would prefer. What I do know is I was planning on painting my bedroom set. I have officially changed my mind. Really think I need one of those paint sprayers to finish this project.

Once I complete the table/chairs I need to do some paint touchups in the diningroom, hang a few new wall hangings, and I have decided to pull out the steamer chest that’s in there. I am in search of the perfect china cabinet, and with any luck will have one soon [I probably shouldn't mention that I already know that I will want to paint it, maybe I should begin looking around for a professional to do it for me!]

Worked on some homework for the week today, and was introduced to Milton Mayeroff and more on Nursing As Caring. Love when an assignment refreshes me, and more importantly reminds me why I am a nurse!

For here I am going to run along to get my painting clothes off, and ready for tonights episode of The Walking Dead. Here’s to a beautiful week ahead of us friends!

Let the painting begin…

A watercolor sketch from my husband…

I Woke up this morning at 5am…with hives, a swollen eye, and a swollen bottom lip. How crazy is that!? I am going to blame the cats.

The beginning of a new project: the diningroom table

…one coat of primer so far. six five chairs remaining to be primed. ugh. Sadly, I am thinking this is a project I should not have started.

So much I would love to talk about…I am actually ready to burst at the seams. But I can’t. Don’t you hate when people do this to you?! Busy, busy month about to begin. On that note I need to run along and work on some homework before I head to bed. Until next time…

For the LOve of Paint!

DIY,Everyday Life | Thursday 1 September 2011 5:27 pm

Hello friends, and Happy September 1st! Today was my day off from work, and I spent it painting, and a trip to the vet.

Before: An old frame I picked up at a yardsale for a project in mind.

After a coat of paint. Beautiful!

I picked up these Holly Hobbie embroidered designs for my neice, Autumn.

After a wash, and paint…Love, love, love! I need to do a quick iron, and add paper to the back, and they are going to look beautiful in her bedroom.

That’s as much as I was able to get accomplished today. Not doing so good in the ‘productivity’ area as of lately. For here I must close…until next time, be well friends.

I’ve been Smurfed…

DIY,Everyday Life,Simple Living | Thursday 18 August 2011 5:07 pm

Day off, and all I really managed to do was make a complete disaster of my entire first floor. All I wanted to do was pull that diningroom together, and it ended up spewing into the kitchen, hallway, and livingroom. [sigh].

I worked on two signs today, and good grief is all I have to say! I’m not sure if the paint was bad [not even sure if that is possible], or if it was due to the weather, but I had a very difficult time [yes, there were a few naughty words used]. Anyways, they are completed, and to protect them I had to seal them, which I don’t typically do. I have made them for a co-worker who celebrated her wedding anniversary yesterday. I hope she will like them.

Keith went shopping this morning and purchased a new laptop for me, as my Vaio had been acting up pretty badly lately. Needless to say, I won’t be upgrading my camera for a while now.

Every once in a while I will notice something odd…and this morning this is what I noticed…

Not sure which of my boys added the smurf to the top of the Hoosier, but when I noticed it this morning, it made me smile, and reminded me how blessed I am…of course, the morning I got into my car and was looking at a huge spider I was neither smiling, or thinking that I was blessed…until I realized that the spider was not moving, and was actually a plastic one left behind by one of my sons.

Well friends, for here I am going to close, and attempt to pick up a bit of the mess that I have made today…until next time…

Project 3

DIY,Everyday Life | Friday 12 August 2011 5:53 pm

You probably won’t believe this, but I dislike shopping. I have to be ‘in the mood’, and sadly, I don’t seem to be in the mood very often, and at times my anxiety proves to be too much for me. (We won’t discuss the money I spend ordering online though). For weeks now I have needed to stop at the paint store to purchase paint to begin a new project… this morning while at work I remembered that Keith was planning on running some errands so I called and requested that he visit Sherman Williams to grab the paint I need for my newest project…

Unfortunately I picked up overtime for Sunday, so not too sure if I am going to be able to begin this project this weekend. I have to tell you that after using Sherwin Williams paint on the hall desk, and chair, I will never use any other paint. It is well worth the money!

Info, and photos of Project 3 to follow in future posts. For here I need to move along. Here’s to a beautiful weekend ahead of us!
